Sofie Irons

Hello Mycophiles!

My name is Sofie Irons, I am currently beginning my journey as a fifth-year-Master student at Clark University. I graduated from Clark with my B.A. degree in Biology in May of 2023, and am continuing my education with a Masters in Biology at the same institution. My areas of interest include population genetics, evolutionary developmental biology, botany, agriculture, and mycology.

I began my mycological adventure when I joined David Hibbett’s lab in the beginning of my junior year of undergrad. Since then, I have been working on the Lentinus project, focusing on the potential of population structuring and assortative mating among the two morphological forms of the fruiting bodies of L. tigrinus. While still new to the world of fungi, I am excited to continue and finish my masters working with this unique organism.

In my free time, I enjoy my job coaching kids at a local rock climbing gym, hiking, and spending time with my pet snake and roommates at home!
